Product Review: Cricut Maker is here!!!

August 21, 2017

You know how some women are super excited over designer bags and shoes? Maybe some get butterflies in their tummies just thinking of the latest makeup or accessories? Well, when it comes to gadgets and craft equipment I'm the same way. And was it difficult to keep my mouth from hanging open when I saw the new Cricut Maker keynote!

It's like Silhouette Cameo 3, ONLY BETTER!!!

More materials to cut,

more accessories to cut them with,

more possibilities!

(Did I mention more expensive, too?)

But regardless of cost, I think it's worth looking more into. All the reviews are mostly positive and the machine is already available in the US. At $400, quite an investment for a hobbyist like me.

If you want to know more about Cricut Maker, you can view the official release video from Cricut's Youtube channel:

https://youtu.be/AEJ7O1MPxgs

Just some general thoughts on Cricut Maker vs Silhouette Cameo 3-

-CM has more cutting force than its predecessor Cricut Explore Air 2 or the SC3. To think that Explore Air already had more cutting force than SC3, CM is worth considering if you are using heavier and thicker materials.

-CM has a new rotary blade, which is the kind of blade sewers and quilters use when cutting fabric. The control in which CM has over fabric is amazing! Also, because of this new blade, sewing patterns are also available on Cricut Space. Silhouette Design Studio has no (none I'm aware of) sewing patterns for purchase.

-CM also has a deep cut blade that works like an Xacto Knife. It's no wonder that it can cut balsa wood and chipboard, as their video has shown.

Serious crafter or hobbyist, if I had the extra cash and space, I'd get this one. Cricut has come a long way since Cuttlebug and with Cricut Maker, it seems that they are giving Silhouette some very tough competition.
